I spent many years working in the City of London and have always had an interest in the way it has adapted over time. It's never finished, change is inevitable. In the year before Covid I devoted a lot of time to documenting the City as it was. Mostly in the early morning with very few people around.
Early in the year I wasn't completely clear what I was trying to document so I just tried to capture whatever I could. I don't think I even realised that I was starting a new project.
Further on in the year I started to get more focus on early mornings and city streets with few people in.
Early in 2020 things started to change and it became clear that it wasn't going to be long before my time wandering around the City was going to come to an end.
My days as a regular street photographer of London ended at Covid. Work from home wasn't something occasional it was the norm. Access to the City was going to be limited and once a week at most is not enough to sharpen street photography skills. I look back on this project as the pinnacle of my access to an amazing subject, an opportunity I wont get again.
